Engie is to supply materials supplier Cemex with 100% renewable energy in the UK.
Cemex UK’s 150 sites, such as at Rugby (pictured), have received power from Engie over the last 10 years and the new deal will be extended for 12 months with the electricity now all coming from renewables.
Engie business and energy services chief executive Nicola Lovett said: “Our 10-year partnership with Cemex UK has delivered major cost and environmental benefits, while also generating additional revenue for the company.
“Our ability to provide 100% renewable electricity represents another important step forward in addressing Cemex UK’s sustainability commitments.”
Cemex UK head of energy and carbon Martin Hills said: “Cement manufacture is inherently energy-intensive and we work hard to minimise energy consumption within the process constraints.
“The switch to electricity from renewable sources is playing a key role in our carbon reduction strategy.”
