The Energy and Climate Change Committee (ECC) has today held its final public hearing before being disbanded on 17 October.
The inquiry examined innovative technologies that could “revolutionise” the energy sector such storage and demand-side response and probed the UK government’s role in supporting their development.
Participants in the session included representatives from National Grid, UK Power Networks, Renewable Energy Association, Electricity Storage Network, Kiwi Power and Citizens Advice.
ECC chair Angus MacNeil said a report on the inquiry would be published by the end of the week.
Scrutiny of energy and climate policy will now be transferred to a rebadged business, energy and industrial strategy select committee.
Membership of the BEIS select committee is expected to change to reflect the expanded brief of the cross-party group of MPs. The committee will continue to be chaired by Labour’s Iain Wright.
MacNeil thanked the committee’s staff and cross-party group of MPs, adding he hoped the BEIS committee would have “energy for energy”.
“We hope they give a decent and reasonable response to demands that will be made by the energy community over the coming time,” he said.
