Jan De Nul has registered a rise in activity in its offshore business last year which contributed to a net profit of €61m in 2019, the group said.

The company reported €342m in earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA), 16.84% of its turnover, in 2019.

Comparative financial figures for 2018 were not provided.

The company’s activity in the offshore segment “increased significantly”.

“The market for offshore renewable energy is growing at a rapid pace,” Jan De Nul stated.

The maritime dredging and offshore sector accounts for 77% of the group’s total turnover.

Offshore wind highlights in 2019 included work on the Northwester 2 project in Belgium and the Trianel project in Germany.

Outside Europe, in Taiwan, Jan De Nul Group constructed the Changhua and the 120MW Formosa 1 phase 2 offshore wind farms.

In 2019 Jan De Nul Group was awarded a contract for work on the 376MW Formosa 2 project, which will begin construction in 2020.

In addition Jan De Nul won a deal to transport and install turbines for the Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm off Denmark.

The company also signed its first offshore wind contract in France, for the transportation and installation of 80 turbines for the Saint-Nazaire project.

This year the offshore installation vessel Vole au Vent will set course to the US for the construction of the 12MW Coastal Virginia offshore wind project, said Jan De Nul.

Last month the company signed the contracts for the supply and installation of high-voltage cables that will connect the Dutch offshore wind farms Hollandse Kust Noord and Hollandse Kust West Alpha to the onshore electricity grid, starting in 2022.
