French electricity market regulator CRE has published new rules that will allow tender-winning renewables projects to come online earlier than planned to take advantage of high power prices.
Officials said the measures will allow for the “rapid commissioning” of 6GW of green energy that is “currently in difficulty”.
“The general objective of these modifications is to enable producers to absorb part of the increase in costs and rates, in particular by selling their production on the market now, before their support,” said the regulator.
There is also provision in the new rules for an extension of the deadlines for completion of the installations as well as the possibility for the developer to modify the power up to 140% of the initial power selected in the call for tenders.
More than 6.1GW of renewable energy capacities are targeted, including 3.4GW for wind power and 2.7 GW for Solar PV.
As of September 1, the producers concerned will be able to ask the Minister responsible for energy for the application of these modifications.
“The CRE welcomes this system, which makes it possible to strengthen and accelerate the deployment of renewable energies in the context of an electricity supply crisis,” the regulator added.
