UK company Good Energy has launched a carbon neutral gas tariff.
The company said the gas offering will include 6% biomethane – produced from organic matter, such as manure and sewage, in the UK.
Emissions from customers’ usage of the gas will be neutralised through verified carbon-reduction schemes that support local communities in Malawi, Vietnam and Nepal, Good Energy said.
It added that the gas tariff had been launched to celebrate the signing of the UN Climate Change Agreement in New York on 22 April.
Good Energy founder Juliet Davenport (pictured) said: “Emissions from energy are one of the biggest causes of global warming, and the simplest way to cut your footprint is switching to renewable electricity and carbon neutral gas.”
