ABB has won a €270m order from National Grid and RTE to provide high voltage direct current (HVDC) technology for the 1GW IFA2 power link between the UK and France.
The Swiss company will ABB will supply the two HVDC converter stations for the 240km connection across the English Channel, it said.
The converter stations, one located in each country, will be linked with a land and subsea cable.
Separately, Prysmian said it has won a €350m order to supply the 320kV cable connecting Tourbe in France and Chilling in England. The subsea section will be 200km long.
“This order further strengthens our leading HVDC position and provides momentum to our transformational drive for profitable growth, as a partner of choice for enabling a stronger, smarter and greener grid,” ABB power grids unit president Claudio Facchin said.
