German federal network agency BNetzA has finalised the route for the first section of the SuedLink onshore transmission line, which is seen as key to supporting greater levels of offshore wind generation in the North Sea.
The agency said the 100km wire will run underground from Brunsbuttel or Wilster in the north to Scheeßel, south-west of Hamburg, along a 1km-wide route.
BNetzA said the proposal largely follows the design suggested by project promoters TenneT and TransnetBW.
Consenting for the line will now get underway shortly once the TSOs file the application, which is expected shortly. The exact final route will be decided during this process.
“We are making good progress with the processes for the energy transition power lines,” said BNetzA president Jochen Homann (pictured).
“Determining the corridor for the SuedLink is an important step on the way to realising the project and enables the further planning and approval of a route.”
