DeepOcean 1 UK has won a contract from J-Power Systems for installation and burial of cables for the 1GW Nemo Link interconnector project between Belgium and the UK.
DeepOcean’s role will cover all marine works associated with the HVDC bundled cables between the transition joint bays in Kent in the UK to Zeebrugge in Belgium.
The three-year project will start in 2016, with the offshore works due to be completed in 2018.
The cables will be installed by Maersk Connector, a new DeepOcean DP2 vessel to be delivered in the first quarter of 2016.
“The vessel is capable of grounding out with its seven points mooring system which allows the cable system to be installed without the requirement for a separate shallow water cable lay vessel, thus minimising the number of cable joints required,” the company said.
Cable burial will be undertaken by DeepOcean’s T3200 mechanical and jetting trenching vehicle.
DeepOcean will also perform route surveys and engineering, out of service cable clearance, pre-sweeping in sand wave areas and crossings construction.
DeepOcean chief executive officer Bart Heijermans said: “We are very pleased to have the opportunity to support J-Power Systems on this prestigious project.
“The execution of the Nemo Link project will further strengthen DeepOcean’s position in the market as an independent leading cable installation and trenching contractor.”
