Siemens is to supply eight converter transformers for the 1GW Nemo Link interconnector project between Belgium and the UK.
The deal involves eight 365MWA transformers, which, fully assembled and installed, weigh 448 tonnes each.
Siemens said the transformers measure 17 metres by 4.1 metres by 10.6 metres, not including their cooling systems.
The units will transported from Siemens transformer plant in Nuremberg to the city’s inland harbour, where a waterway barge will carry them through the Europa Canal system to Belgium.
Four transformers will be delivered to the construction site at Herdersburg, with the remaining units loaded onto a roll-on-roll-off vessel and shipped to Ramsgate in the UK. They will then be transported to the UK construction site at Richborough.
