The German federal network agency BNetzA has opened a public consultation on possible scenarios for the country’s grid development plan for the 2021 to 2035 period.
The scenarios are based on Germany’s currently applicable legal framework and energy policy goals, including the renewable energy expansion target of 65% clean power by 2030, BNetzA said.
It added that the scenarios take account of developments in the flexibility of power applications and new storage technologies.
This includes controlling consumption behaviour and using cogeneration and battery storage systems to provide flexibility.
BNetzA will hold two events on 5 February in Berlin and 6 February in Nuremberg to discuss the draft scenario framework with the public.
Consultation is open until 14 February.
BNetzA president Jochen Hohmann (pictured) said: “The scenario framework is the planning basis for determining how much network expansion is necessary.
“It takes into account the recently adopted climate protection measures of the federal government.
“Citizens, associations, companies and authorities can take part in the consultation over the next four weeks.
“This enables the public to influence network development planning at an early stage.”
