NKT has completed qualification and testing of a 525kV DC cable type to match the requirements of upcoming interconnector projects in Germany.
The company qualified the cable at an external facility and said it has taken over one year to complete the testing.
The company is hoping to supply the 525kV DC wires to upcoming German onshore interconnectors.
The planned links will take power from the north of the country, where most wind power is generated, to meet the high power demand in the country’s industrial south.
“This additional qualification of our high-performing 525 kV DC power cable is a milestone for NKT to take active part in the German energy transformation. At the same time, it underlines our leading position as power cable innovator, as we were the first to launch this 525 kV DC XLPE power cable in 2014,” said NKT executive vice president Anders Jensen.
