Poland ordered record cuts for generation of renewable energy on Sunday 14 April due to electricity oversupply.
Sunny and windy weather increased production from solar and wind farms, during reduced weekend demand.
This in turn required measures to balance the country’s power system, state grid operator Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE) said on its website.
The oversupply prompted PSE once again to use special rules related to energy security threats.
Due to the oversupply of generation PSE introduced a non-market reduction in the generation of photovoltaic sources on from just after 8am in the morning to 6pm in the evening and a reduction in wind from between just after 3am to 6pm on 14 April.
Combined halted production from wind and solar totalled 4.5GW.
The oversupply also pushed the price of electricity at balancing the market to negative levels.
