GE Renewable Energy has won a contract to overhaul and upgrade units one and two at Ontario Power Generation’s 205MW Little Long hydro project in Canada.
The upgrade will increase the output of the two 65MW units to 72MW, bringing total capacity to 219MW.
The work will include the replacement of the units’ switchgears, electrical components, as well as the supply and installation of a new head gate for unit one.
New runners for unit one and two had already been provided under a separate agreement, GE said.
The upgrades are expected to extend the two units’ power output capacity by almost 10%.
GE hydro solutions president and chief executive Yves Rannou said: “We are glad that Ontario Power Generation renewed their confidence in us.”
Little Long is part of the 924MW Lower Mattagami hydroelectric complex.
