Voith has won a contract to modernise SSE’s Mucomir small hydro plant in Scotland.
The work will involve overseeing the building, installation and commission of the power station’s turbine, replacing the digital governors and hydraulic units and refurbishing the generator.
Voith said construction work, which will be carried out during a shutdown, is set to be complete by the third quarter of 2017.
Mucomir has been operating since 1962 and the upgrade will install a new turbine runner to reduce the adverse effects on fish by making it easier for them to pass through the hydro plant.
SSE hydro asset manager Peter Diver said: “The modernisation will help ensure the economic viability of the power plant while taking into account of ecological aspects and using the most effective technological solution.”
