Voith Hydro has won the main contract to upgrade systems at Norwegian energy supplier Sira-Kvina kraftselskap’s Tonstad and Solhorn hydro power plants.
The scope of the work includes upgrading and modernising control and electrical auxiliary systems at the facilities.
Old relay control systems will be replaced with programmable logic controller-based ones, Voith said.
The incremental commissioning of the new technology at the Tonstad plant, which is Norway’s largest in terms of average annual production, will start in the spring for auxiliary systems.
The five control systems will be commissioned between 2018 and 2022, Voith said.
Auxiliary systems at Solhom will be commissioned in 2019, with control units following in 2020 and 2021.
