KK Wind to deliver 100MW H2 power unit

KK Wind Solutions is expanding into the green hydrogen industry with the delivery of its largest power supply unit to date.

The company will deliver a power supply unit tailored to the requirements of a 100MW pressurised alkaline electrolyser being built by Sunfire.

KK Wind Solutions has designed the power supply unit to meet Sunfire’s specifications. This will ensure the electrolyser produces green hydrogen at the maximum efficiency while reducing operating costs.

Chief commercial officer of KK Wind Solutions René Balle said: “As a leading manufacturer of power converters and control systems for the wind industry, combined with the support of our long-term owner, we have the necessary technology and expertise to deliver technology crucial to support the growth of the green hydrogen industry.

“This project strengthens our partnership with industry leaders like Sunfire and underlines the importance of delivering solutions customised to plant-specific electrolyser and grid requirements.”

As part of the order, the company will provide 10 customised power supply units, each comprising transformers, rectifiers, AC connections and cooling units.

Additionally, the company will provide comprehensive services and support at every stage of the plant’s lifespan. This includes detailed engineering, supervision of installation, commissioning and maintenance.

In total, the order from Sunfire will be the biggest power supply unit for a green hydrogen system to be delivered by KK Wind Solutions.

The company designs and manufactures integrated power supply units that convert alternating current (AC) from the electricity grid to direct current (DC) to power electrolysers, which convert water into green hydrogen.

KK Wind Solutions has delivered over 30,000 power conversion systems to the wind sector, with an annual production capacity exceeding 15GW.
