Former Danish prime minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt has agreed to be nominated as a member of the Vestas board of directors.
She is expected to be elected at the company’s annual general meeting on 3 April, Vestas said.
The company said Thorning-Schmidt was a “strong candidate” with the “core competencies for the work of the board and with her experience can support Vestas becoming the global leader in sustainable energy”.
She “shares Vestas’ aspiration to meet the growing global energy needs sustainably and address climate change by making the existing energy system sustainable, and she will provide extensive insights into the political conditions around government-regulated industries such as the energy industry, as well as a global network and experience from managing complex organisations”, it added.
Thorning-Schmidt served as Denmark’s prime minister between 2011 and 2015 and as a member of the Danish parliament from 2005 to 2015.
She was also a member of the European parliament from 1999 to 2004 and is chief executive of Save the Children International.
