The Irish Wind Energy Association has appointed Coillte renewables boss Peter Lynch (pictured) as its new chairman.
Lynch, who is managing director of the semi-state’s wind business, takes the reins from long-time chair Peter Harte, who is stepping down after six years.
“I am taking on this role as IWEA Chair at a very exciting time for the industry, but also a very challenging time globally,” said Lynch.
“The 2019 Climate Action Plan has set an excellent framework for onshore and offshore wind to be leveraged to their fullest potential in the decades ahead.
“Despite the unprecedented challenges we are all now facing, the wind energy sector is well positioned to continue delivering for Ireland through limiting CO2 emissions, reducing Ireland’s dependency on imported fossil fuels and driving down the wholesale price of electricity”.
Two other new board members have also been appointed: Eoin Cassidy, energy sector lead at Mason Hayes & Curran and Simens Gamesa head of sales Ireland Kevin Moloney.
IWEA chief executive David Connolly said: “We are very excited with the new additions to the Board and grateful to all our members for providing continued support, particularly as we face the unprecedented challenges created by the Corona virus, to the sector through IWEA.
“We all need to play our part in Ireland’s fight against climate change and I believe wind energy will continue to lead the way in facing this challenge.”
