RWE has extended chief executive Markus Krebber’s contract by five years, securing his position at the helm of the company until the end of June 2031.
Krebber, who joined RWE in 2012 and became CEO in 2021, will continue to lead the group through what the company described as a “new age of electrification and artificial intelligence”.
Supervisory board chairman Frank Appel said: “With him as CEO, the company has an outstanding leader at its helm. He has resolutely positioned RWE for the future energy landscape.”
Appel added: “Thanks to its broad technological and regional scope, the group is now ideally placed to capitalise on the growth resulting from rising electricity demand and electrification.”
He also credited Krebber with steering the company “through times of geopolitical turmoil with a steady hand” and said he had “contributed significantly to overcoming the energy crisis”.
Employee representatives on the board also welcomed the move.
Deputy chairman Michael Vassiliadis said: “Even during periods of significant change, RWE’s corporate culture has always been characterised by trust and constructive collaboration. In Markus Krebber we have a CEO who knows that our employees are the key to the company’s success.”
Krebber said he was grateful for the board’s trust and committed to continuing RWE’s role as a “reliable partner for a secure, affordable and sustainable energy supply”.
He said: “The age of electrification and artificial intelligence offers excellent conditions for profitable growth and sustainable value enhancement at RWE.”
