RenewableUK has called on the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer to support onshore wind and marine power in his budget next week.
Onshore wind should be allowed to compete for government-backed Contracts for Difference with with other forms of renewables, said R-UK executive director Emma Pinchbeck.
“Onshore wind is now the cheapest source of power available in the UK. It saves consumers money over the lifetime of each new project,” she said.
Pinchbeck also called for ways to boost the route to market for wave and tidal power projects.
“This means using tax incentives to attract investment, such as rebates for companies which sign power purchase agreements with marine power projects,” she said.
The government should also maintain the export tariff for small-scale generation, R-UK said.
Pinchbeck said: “This budget is an opportunity for government to provide certainty to businesses investing in the UK, to ensure we can continue to develop our world-class renewable energy sector.”
