SSEN Transmission has launched tendering for the northern converter civil works on the proposed Eastern Green Link 3 (EGL3) high-voltage direct current connection.
The 2GW, 525kV project is being developed with National Grid Electricity Transmission and will run about 680km between Peterhead in Aberdeenshire and the Norfolk coast.
The package includes key infrastructure for the Netherton Hub converter station such as HVDC buildings, access roads, drainage and fencing. It is the final work package to be tendered for the northern section of the link, which is scheduled for delivery by 2033.
SSEN Transmission said the tender marks “another important step in securing the supply chain” for the £22bn Pathway to 2030 programme, which aims to unlock Scotland’s renewable energy potential and strengthen the UK’s grid.
EGL3 is one of several subsea links planned to deliver clean power south from Scotland to homes and businesses across the UK.
