UK Energy Minister Graham Stuart has resigned. He has been replaced by Justin Tomlinson, a former minister and deputy Tory chairman.
Stuart (pictured) pointed to a halving of emissions and the planned shut down of the country’s last coal fired power plant later this year as highlights of his tenure.
“I was delighted to establish and chair the Net Zero Council, the Solar Taskforce and the Green Jobs Delivery Group as we continue our partnership with business to reach net zero in a way which strengthens our economy and protects households,” he said in his resignation letter.
He said officials at Energy Department DESNZ are “among the finest in the civil service” who go “above and beyond” to ensure energy security and decarbonisation.
Stuart said he will focus on his Beverley & Holderness constituency after the majority of the last eight years as a minister.
He added he will support Rishi Sunak’s government from the back benches.
