Robert Gordon University researchers in Aberdeen won £200,000 in funding to help establish integrated renewable energy systems in Indonesia.
The UK’s Newton Fund Institutional Links program awarded £100,000 while Indonesian government agencies and local NGOs matched the funding, the university said.
RGU’s Centre for Understanding Sustainable Practice and local partners have worked in remote areas such as coastal and rural off-grid communities in Aceh, West Nusa Tenggara and West Papua since 2011.
The latest round of funding will help implement a renewable system to restore prawn farms damaged by the 2004 tsunami, helping communities improve energy and food security.
It will also aid nearby salt production home industries get access to clean energy.
