The UK’s proposed legislation for a cleaner, more affordable and more secure energy system, is undergoing review by the Public Bill Committee.
The Energy Bill 2022-23, which had its second reading in the House of Commons on 9 May, will now undergo scrutiny by the committee, which has invited those with an interest to submit their views in writing as part of this process.
A Public Bill Committee is set up by the House of Commons to examine the details of a particular bill.
The first sitting of the body is expected to be on 23 May and the committee is scheduled to report by 29 June.
Those with relevant expertise and experience or a special interest are strongly advised to submit written evidence as soon as possible.
The government’s Energy Security Bill overarching factsheet explained that the bill “will deliver a cleaner, more affordable and more secure energy system for the long term”, building on the commitments in the April 2022 British Energy Security Strategy to “invest in homegrown energy and maintain the diversity and resilience of the UK’s energy supply”.
