Danish manufacturer Vestas was the world’s largest supplier of wind turbines in 2016, according to preliminary data compiled by FTI Consulting.
FTI said Vestas’s position was bolstered by increased installations in the US market, where it overtook GE as number one supplier.
Chinese manufacturer Goldwind slipped from top spot to third because of a slow down in domestic installations, with GE rising one place to second, the consultancy said.
Gamesa took fourth place on the back of strong growth in India with Enercon in fifth, FTI said.
Siemens dropped out of the top five for the first time since 2012, mainly due to its decreased annual installation in both the US and the offshore wind sector in 2016, according to the research.
The full research will be published in the Global Wind Market Update ? Demand & Supply 2016, which will be released in March, FTI Consulting said.
