Eco Wave Power has received funding approval for an EU grant for a 5MW wave energy unit in Gibraltar.
The project will be built in two phases, the first of which will see EWP implement a 100KW power station on the Ammunition Jetty.
The second phase will involve the power plant being expanded to 5MW.
The grant has been provided as part of the EU Funding under the 2014-2020 European Regional Development Fund Operational Programme.
EWP has a power purchase agreement with Gibelec and the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Climate Change in Gibraltar.
EWP founder and chief executive officer David Leb said: “We are very grateful and excited with the opportunity to build our wave energy power plant in Gibraltar, with the assistance from the EU.”
