The EU-supported Foresea programme has selected 10 ocean energy technology developers to receive free access to open-sea test centres.
The list of those awarded a “recommendation of support” include Aquantis, Corpower, Geps Techno, Laminaria and Mako Turbines.
Also on the list announced at the Ocean Energy Europe 2016 conference are Nautricity, Pytheas Technnology, QED Naval, Seacurrent and Zyba.
The €11m Foresea programme is designed to “help commercialise these technologies by providing free access” to test centres including EMEC in Orkney, SEM-REV in France, SmartBay Ireland and Stichting in the Netherlands.
Access is awarded through a series of competitive calls for application and the initiative is financed by Interreg Europe. The first call closed on 21 September and final confirmation of support “will be granted to developers upon contract with the relevant test centre”.
Nic Wallet, Foresea manager at EMEC, said: “The level of interest we’ve had from technology developers in the programme has been very encouraging, and shows how vibrant the sector is becoming.”
