James Fisher Marine Services has bagged a £2.83m contract from Cornish test centre Wave Hub to link upgraded dry mate connectors.
The Barrow-in-Furness outfit will replace the current 11kV-rated dry mate connectors with 33kV-rated in-line joints, install four new lengths of cable tails totalling 6km and terminate the extension cables with half of a 33kV dry mate connector.
Works at the Wave Hub are due to run from 27 May to 12 June subject to weather. James Fisher is expected to utilise its Siem Daya 1 DP vessel for the installation, with Falmouth company using its Xplorer multicat survey vessel.
The completion of the project will facilitate the connection of Wello’s 1MW Penguin device, which is due to start in July.
