Geosea jack-up Neptune set sail from Nigg in the early hours of 22 September carrying the first turbine foundation to be installed at Atlantis Resources’ MeyGen Phase 1A in Scotland’s Pentland Firth.
The vessel carrying the foundation for the first of three Andritz Hydro HS1000 turbines is due to arrive at the installation site off the island of Stroma at 5am on 23 September.
Global Energy Group’s Isleburn fabricated the foundations at its Aberdeen yard with final load out at Nigg.
The foundations are three-legged with six blocks of 200-tonne ballast or two blocks per turbine leg.
GeoSea will install the turbine supports in one slack tide with the ballast deployed in another one or two slack tides, or a maximum of three days in total.
First power from the initial Andritz Hammerfest Hydro HS1000 turbine to be installed this month is due in October following completion of a six-week commissioning phase.
The second HS1000 is slated to go in around 9 October with Atlantis’ own AR1500 1.5MW turbine to follow around 22 October.
The final HS1000 for the four-turbine, 6MW Phase 1A is scheduled to be deployed on 7 November.
