Swedish marine energy developer Minesto is progressing with commissioning of its DG100 tidal power project at Vestmannasund in the Faroe Islands, having verified the system’s most important operational functions.
Minesto said it has also verified procedures for efficiently and safely installing and recovering the power plant from the sea.
It currently has a team of approximately 15 people on site in Vestmanna working on the commissioning.
The staff consists of people both from the product development team in Sweden and from the operational team in the UK, the company said.
Minesto chief executive Martin Edlund said: “We follow our commissioning plan, which will take us to continuous power production for the Faroese electricity grid.
“So far, we have verified the DG100 system’s main functions: procedures for launching and recovering the power plant from the sea, the power plant’s movement through the water, start and stop commands, handling of tidal turns and electricity generation mode.
“The team is doing a fantastic job of taking us towards the production of electricity for the electricity grid.”
