Welsh politicians will step up lobbying of their UK counterparts to secure wave and tidal price revenue after the budget on Monday omitted targeted measures.
The sector had hoped the Treasury would announce proposals for so-called innovation power purchase agreements, which would give tax incentives to offtakers of marine energy.
Welsh goverment cabinet secretary for finance Mark Drakeford said the IPPA is a “credible way forward” to allow wave and tidal to “catch up and compete with offshore wind”.
“We hear the UK is seriously considering it and we want to work to make sure it is pushed up the agenda,” he added.
The Welsh politician accused the UK government for being “shortsighted” by removing “essential” ringfenced marine support during the early stages of technology commercialisation.
Drakeford also voiced disappointment in the lack of green measures in the Budget.
“There was not a single mention of climate change, which is an overwhelmingly important issue facing any government.”
