Aggreko has deployed a hybrid energy solution to protect operations at Douglas West Wind Farm in South Lanarkshire during a planned network outage.
Aggreko said it supplied a mix of battery energy storage systems and HVO-fuelled generators to maintain turbine performance over the six-week shutdown.
The company added that the system was designed to reduce emissions and costs while ensuring critical turbine functions continued.
The solution included 13 125kVA generators fuelled with hydrotreated vegetable oil and 13 120kWh battery systems.
The temporary power supply enabled hydraulic systems to remain pressurised and prevented moisture build-up in electrical components.
Natural Power’s asset management team appointed Aggreko to deliver the project.
The system also used Aggreko Remote Management technology to monitor performance and optimise efficiency in real time.
Craig Fleming, utilities sector sales manager for the UK and Ireland at Aggreko, said: “Wind now accounts for almost a third of the UK’s electricity, and operators can’t afford disruption.”
“This project shows exactly how Aggreko steps in; delivering engineered, low-emission power solutions that keep critical assets protected, maintain operational integrity, and minimise environmental impact, even during extended grid outages.”
