The Global 100% Renewable Energy Platform has called on all generations to follow the lead of school children striking today to fight climate change and transition to a clean power future.
Global100RE ambassador Ruslana and executive committee member Stefan Gsanger said young people in more than 100 countries around the world are demonstrating today.
“They are deeply concerned that climate change will destroy the earth and will put their future at risk.
“While during the past decades fossil fuels were the main drivers of human development, we know today that their utilisation poses the greatest risk to the future of mankind, in particular for the younger generation.
“However, today we all have the unique opportunity to move to a lifestyle which is no longer based on hazardous fossil or nuclear energy but on the abundance of renewable energy.”
They added that the young people demonstrating today know that a new culture is emerging based on renewable energy, and the protest is driven by the need to accelerate the shift towards future.
A renewables-based society would not only save the planet but also “strengthen the independence and dignity of each individual person”, Ruslana and Gsanger said.
Global100RE plans to launch a dedicated day at the start of summer where it will invite climate activists, the renewable energy community, artists and civil society to push for a renewable energy future.
The platform is a global initiative that advocates 100% renewable energy.
