German renewables and construction company BayWa has set itself a target of being climate-neutral across the group by 2030.
In its sustainability report 2018 the company announced that it wants to cut greenhouse gas emissions from the electricity, water and transportation it uses by 22% by 2025 compared with 2017.
The company said that by 2025 it will reduce energy consumption significantly through more efficiency measures and is targeting 100% clean electricity consumption by the end of 2020.
BayWa chairman Klaus Josef Lutz said: “The climate strategy is embedded in our sustainability strategy which we have been pursuing for some years.”
He said BayWa is committed to taking responsibility for the impact of its business activity.
“If your business is not sustainable, you might be out of business altogether,” Lutz said.
Since 2014, BayWa has published its sustainability report annually, which highlights the commitment of the company for accepting ecological, economic and social responsibility.
The report documents key figures and targets and defines measures which BayWa uses to steer its sustainability activities.
In addition the BayWa Foundation sponsored 25 long-term education projects globally in 2018, many of which are related to the United Nations’ sustainability development targets.
The BayWa sustainability report was prepared in compliance with the international reporting standard of the Global Reporting Initiative for sustainability.
