Siemens Gamesa has completed its first cargo drone delivery trial at the Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind farm operated by Crosswind.
The company said drones transferred packages between the SOV Purus Horizon and its turbines during four days of good weather in December.
It added that 22 flights were carried out using an actively stabilised cargo pickup system and supervised semi-automated operations, which performed reliably in winter offshore conditions.
The trial, run with Ampelmann Operations, demonstrated how drone logistics can speed up maintenance by delivering tools directly to technicians without relying on vessel transfers.
Siemens Gamesa stated that the approach reduces vessel movements, saves time and enhances safety, confirming the technology’s potential to improve offshore maintenance efficiency.
