A floating solar array in London’s Royal Docks that will provide clean renewable energy directly to the capital’s City Airport has won a share of the £1m Resilience Fund.
The Royal Docks Floating Solar array on the River Thames will also supply as other local customers with renewable energy.
Organised by the Mayor of London, in partnership with Nesta Challenges, the project from Renewable Connections Developments Limited won the renewable energy category.
The winner of each of the ten categories was awarded up to £40,000 to work with local community partners to further develop solutions.
The fund was set up to support London’s businesses and community groups to emerge stronger from COVID-19 and to ensure the capital is prepared for future disruptive challenges.

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, added: “The pandemic has been the most challenging period in our great city’s history since World War Two.
“Today London is home to some of the most brilliant innovators in the world, which is why I set a series of challenges directly to them help build our city back better.
“The winners are using digital, data and technology to make a real difference to Londoners, from supporting local businesses and traders to green and renewable solutions for our city.
“They all show what great ingenuity we have here in London.”
