Renewable energy projects have been selected as finalists in the Mayor of London’s Resilience Fund, which is supporting start-ups with innovative ideas to help the capital bounce back from Covid-19.
As part of the Mayor’s £1m Resilience Fund, 36 selected innovators will be working alongside local boroughs and community groups to solve problems such as vacancies on empty high-streets, poor air quality and Covid-safe travel.
The renewable energy projects chosen as finalists include Hybrid Wind and Solar (HYWINS, which offers the “optimum techno-economic solution while minimising land usage and maximising accessible space for nearby residents and industry”.
The water asset in the docks in east London remains almost untouched with minimal footprint for HYWINS structure.
NS Innovations is developing a new technology to combine several elements for an efficient wind-solar integration for optimum electric power generation suitable for the local conditions.
Another finalist is the Royal Docks Floating Solar Project, being developed by Renewable Connections and European Energy.
The project will make a “significant contribution” to London’s low carbon strategy and if implemented, could provide clean, green, renewable electricity for over 40 years, displacing electricity produced from traditional fossil fuels.
The project proposes to install a floating solar array in London’s Royal Docks to provide clean renewable energy directly to London’s City Airport, as well as other local customers.
In the early test phase, Renewable Connections is working closely with the Royal Docks Management Authority and City Airport’s safeguarding team to make sure the project is technically suitable.
The company stated: “Renewable Connections is hugely excited to be leading this project in collaboration with so many progressive stakeholders.
