EDF Renewables North America has signed the first tranche of a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the 345MW Space City solar project in Texas.
The PPA, for 55MW of output, is with global chemicals producer BASF.
Space City Solar is expected to commence construction in summer 2021 and begin delivery of electricity in summer 2022.
Approximately 300 jobs are expected to be created during the construction phase with more than $30m generated in new tax revenue over the operating life for Wharton County.
Space City Solar is designed to generate clean energy while minimising impacts to wildlife, habitat, and other environmental resources, EDF Renewables said.
The project will use high-efficiency bifacial photovoltaic modules.
EDF Renewables south region development vice president Matt McCluskey said: “This transaction demonstrates EDF Renewables’ continued commitment to helping corporate customers meet their wholesale power supply needs and sustainability initiatives.
“Space City Solar will provide an economic boost to the local economy through construction jobs, local spend and an expanded tax base.”
