Enel Green Power has started construction of the 220MW Magdalena 2 solar farm in the Mexican state of Tlaxcala.
The project, located in the the municipalities of Tlaxco and Hueyotlipan, will feature 550,000 modules and should be operational by the end of next year.
It is expected to generate 600 gigawatt-hours of electricity a year.
Enel Green Power Mexico and Central America head Paolo Romanacci said: “This new project is yet another step in our expansion within the important Mexican market, where we are continuing to bring our global renewable expertise.
“The company’s entry into the State of Tlaxcala, which boasts an abundance of solar resources, confirms our commitment to help Mexico meet its electricity needs by boosting the country’s renewable energy mix.”
Enel Green Power manages 1816MW in Mexico, of which 1089MW is solar, 675MW wind and 53MW hydro.
The company added that it is close to completing the 200MW Amistad wind farm and has started work on the 100MW Amistad 2 project both in Coahuila. Work is also ongoing at the 103MW Salitrillos wind farm in Tamaulipas, Enel added.
