European Energy has commenced commercial operation of the Kvosted solar and battery park in Denmark, where a 200MWh system forms what it claims is the largest combined solar and battery facility in Northern Europe.
The company completed construction and energised the park (pictured) in Viborg Municipality in December 2025, with the battery integrated directly into the existing Kvosted solar plant, said European Energy.
The new facility will now be optimised by Danske Commodities under a fresh agreement covering the co-located battery and solar assets, added the trader.
European Energy EPC handled installation, electrical integration and supporting infrastructure for the battery system, completing the works within seven months.
The project has entered a commissioning phase during which technical systems will be prepared for full operation.
“By combining solar generation and battery storage, we can improve the utilisation of renewable energy throughout the day,” said Gregor McDonald, VP and head of energy trading and PPA at European Energy.
“Utilising 20 years of power trading experience and a fully automated algorithmic setup, Danske Commodities has become a leading optimiser of renewables and flexible energy assets,” stated Dirk Kaiser, head of renewables business development at Danske Commodities.
“With a total storage capacity of 200 MWh, the facility can store electricity equivalent to the average daily consumption of around 18,000 households,” said Mads Lykke Andersen, head of technology development at European Energy.
“In the future, we will place strong emphasis on batteries across our project portfolio,” added Thorvald Spanggaard, EVP and head of project development at European Energy.
The batteries will allow the solar park to distribute renewable energy after sunset and support a more stable and flexible electricity system.
