OX2 has signed a virtual power purchase agreement with food retailer Ahold Delhaize has signed to support two new onshore wind farms in western Finland.
The VPPA covers projects at Salo-Ylikoski and Korkeamaa, which will span more than 2400 hectares and feature 24 turbines.
Ahold Delhaize added that the agreement, due to begin operation in 2028, will see the retailer contract about 70% of the farms’ projected 472GWh annual output.
The company said this would raise its future renewable electricity coverage in Europe from 56% to 76% based on projected consumption.
“This VPPA marks another important milestone in our ambition to fully match the electricity consumption in our European operations with renewable energy by 2035,” said Frank Sluis, CFO Ahold Delhaize Europe & Indonesia.
The deal is the company’s fourth European power purchase agreement and forms part of its efforts to achieve net-zero emissions across its own operations by 2040.
