RWE Renewables is to supply electricity to Georgia Power from an over 195MW solar farm in the US state of Georgia under a 30-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
The 195.5MW Broken Spoke project, which will start delivering power in late 2021, will be coupled with a 40MW two-hour battery energy storage device.
Broken Spoke will be located across 637 hectares in Mitchell County in the southwest corner of the state.
RWE Renewables chief operating officer for onshore wind and solar PV Americas Silvia Ortin said: “We’re pleased to finalise this agreement with a company like Georgia Power, who has demonstrated a commitment to delivering clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy to its customers.”
RWE Renewables head of asset commercialization North America Christoph Hunfeld said: “Broken Spoke Solar will include a 40MW two-hour energy storage system, enabling firm delivery of energy from the facility.
“This integrated solar plus storage facility will increase energy delivery during peak demand times and simplify integration of locally produced energy into the Georgia Power grid.”
