Ridge Clean Energy has submitted planning proposals for its 20MW Sunny Oaks Renewable Energy Park on the Isle of Wight, England.
The hybrid solar and battery scheme is planned for development on poor to moderate quality land south-west of Wooton.
RCE said the combination of technologies would deliver efficient, reliable, and stable energy generation for the island off the English south coast, capable of powering the equivalent of around 5,000 homes.
A £10,000 annual community benefit fund is proposed for the 40-year lifespan of the project.
Ridge Clean Energy co-founder Marjorie Glasgow said: “We aim to build a strong partnership with communities living near to our sites from the very beginning. The path to net zero can be best achieved by combining clean energy with local needs.”
Sunny Oaks project manager Jonny Murphy added: “We’ve worked closely with island-based technical teams to not only manage impacts, but also to develop a scheme resulting in biodiversity net gain.”
The project has been designed to avoid impacting existing trees within the site, as well as creating a buffer zone to protect nearby ancient woodland, the developer said.
