A Japanese joint venture, including Kyocera Corp, has started construction of the 92MW Kanoya Osaki Solar Hills photovoltaic project in Kagoshima prefecture in Japan.
The other members of the JV are KK Gaia Power, Kyudenko Corp and Tokyo Century Corp.
The ¥35bn project will cover about 2 million square metres across Kanoya City and Osaki Town.
It consists of about 340,740 Kyocera solar modules and will generate 99,230 megawatt-hours of electricity a year.
Gaia Power and Kyudenko are responsible for design, construction and maintenance, while Tokyo Century arranged finance.
The project is expected to be operational by January 2020.
