A group of Dutch companies have teamed up to build the country’s largest solar array at Delfzijl habour near Groningen.
Groningen Sea Ports, Sunport Energy, and Wirsol will build the 30MW Sunport Delfzijl project on 30 hectares of land to power industries in the Eemsdelta region.
First power will be produced before the end of the year. Backers said the project “will be built with an innovative east-west orientation of the solar panels which in this case allows for a more efficient use of the plot and a better production profile over the course of the day”.
Wirsol and Groningen will finance, construct, and manage the project with the former tackling construction works starting in spring.
Green Giraffe has been involved as financial advisor while Ecofys was involved in the early phase of the project as technical advisor.
“We are proud to have developed the first large scale solar park on an industrial area in the Netherlands,” said Hans Hoven of Sunport.
“We look forward to the successful conclusion of the project and a further cooperation with this experienced partner (Wirsol) for other projects,” he added.
