UK company Lightrock Power has revealed plans for a 33MW solar farm in England.
The proposed Whinfield development would be located at Whinfield and High Grange Farms, north of Brafferton, and could provide enough electricity to power the equivalent of 9900 homes or charge 12,500 electric vehicles each year.
The company said that a number of ecological and feasibility studies have been carried out and Lightrock Power is now inviting local people for input on the proposal.
Lightrock said it has written to residents inviting them to find out more about the project and provide feedback.
Consultation runs from 19 April to 17 May, and an online exhibition detailing the plans is available on the Whinfield Solar Farm website.
Subject to consultation and further site assessments, the company intends to submit a planning application in the Summer.
There are also plans to enhance biodiversity on site by installing bird and bat boxes and improving local flora using native seed mix to attract bees and other insects, with Lightrock Power working with the Discover Brightwater landscape partnership.
Lightrock founder and director Chris Sowerbutts said: “This is an excellent site for solar; it gets lots of sunshine, is well screened, and has good access.
“We’re also really pleased that we can connect on site to the local electricity network, meaning minimum disruption to the local community.
“The Whinfield Solar Farm will help the UK meet its 2050 net zero targets.”
