Voltalia has commissioned three photovoltaic parks in the south of France.
The projects have a combined capacity of 26.9MW.
The company said the first two parks in the Bouches-du-Rhône department have a combined capacity of 17.1MW.
Voltalia added that the third park in Alpes-Maritimes has a capacity of 9.8MW.
The first photovoltaic plant has a capacity of 6.2MW and is located on a site previously used for material storage and quarrying.
The second 10.9MW park uses tracker-supported solar panel structures and is built on a 15-hectare agricultural wasteland.
The third installation has a capacity of 9.8MW and uses fixed-structure solar panels.
The 6.2MW plant was selected as a winner in a neutral call for tenders by the Energy Regulatory Commission in October 2023.
The entire production of the other two parks totalling 34.3 gigawatt hours per year is secured under a 15-year corporate power purchase agreement with CERN.
The three facilities together represent the annual electricity consumption of more than 19,100 inhabitants and will avoid 7,800 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
“The commissioning of these three new solar parks is a concrete illustration of our commitment to accelerate the energy transition in the regions,” said Robert Klein, chief executive of Voltalia.
“By choosing to focus on the development of sites that are already anthropized or fallow, we demonstrate that it is possible to give a second life to sites with the objective of virtuous use: the production of competitive renewable energy.”
