VSB Italy has secured approval for a 36MW photovoltaic project in Sicily after obtaining the Regional Single Authorisation Measure.
The company said the plant will be located in the Passaneto area in the municipality of Francofonte, covering around 64 hectares, with 46.5 hectares allocated to the solar installation.
It added that construction is expected to begin in 2027, with commissioning planned by the end of 2028, and the project designed to align with national and European decarbonisation objectives.
The photovoltaic plant is expected to generate enough electricity to meet the annual needs of around 13,000 households.
VSB said the project incorporates environmental measures including maintaining open areas beneath modules, wildlife passage solutions and vegetative screening using native plant species.
The company noted the development is also expected to deliver positive employment impacts during construction and operation, contributing to the local economy.
“This authorisation marks an important milestone for VSB Italy and represents a further contribution to the country’s decarbonization objectives, while reaffirming our strong commitment to supporting Italy’s energy transition,” said Dr Miroslav Ilijevski, managing director of VSB Italy.
“We are proud to contribute to this path with a project designed to combine clean electricity generation, respect for the local context, and long-term value for the territory and its communities.”
“Projects like this underline our commitment to accelerating Europe’s energy transition with high-quality, sustainable solutions,” said Dr Felix Grolman, chief executive officer of VSB Group.
“At the same time, it reflects the outstanding work of our team in Italy, whose dedication and expertise are key to creating long-term value for both people and regions.”
