Van Oord completes Baltic Power foundations

Van Oord has transported and installed all monopile foundations and transition pieces for the Baltic Power offshore wind farm in Poland.

The company said the project has a planned capacity of up to 1.2GW and will deliver renewable energy to more than 1.5 million Polish households.

Van Oord added that it was responsible for installing 78 monopile foundations and 76 transition pieces in coordination with the client.

The majority of monopile foundations were installed using Van Oord’s heavy-lift installation vessel Svanen, which recently underwent a major upgrade including a 25-metre crane extension.

Baltic Power is the first project executed with the upgraded vessel, enabling installation of foundations for 15MW wind turbines.

Van Oord worked with Mammoet to transport and marshal foundations and used its XXL monopile transport system and MTC1600 crane developed for the project.

The installation of all transition pieces was carried out by SAL’s DP2 heavy lift vessel MV Lone with a Van Oord team overseeing operations on board.

“We are very proud to have successfully completed this project, making a significant contribution to the energy transition in Poland,” said Maurits den Broeder, managing director offshore energy at Van Oord.

“Our close and constructive cooperation with our client and partners involved played a crucial role in achieving this milestone, enabling us to deliver the project efficiently and with shared ambition to contribute to the further development of offshore wind as a reliable renewable energy source.”

“Paving the way for the offshore wind industry in Poland as the country’s first project under construction is both a privilege and an immense challenge,” said Maciej Stryjecki, chief executive officer and president of the management board at Baltic Power.

“We installed foundations for a new generation of turbines – the largest currently available on the European market, with a capacity of 15 MW-which required significant upgrades to the installation fleet.”

Baltic Power is Van Oord’s first offshore wind project in Poland and is scheduled to become operational in the second half of 2026.
