Global wind installations reached a record 165GW in 2025, according to the Global Wind Energy Council’s (‘GWEC’) Global Wind Report 2026.
GWEC said cumulative global wind capacity surpassed 1299GW, cementing wind as a cornerstone of modern energy systems.
The council added that annual installations must double by 2030 to align with a net zero pathway and global climate targets.
Wind power is increasingly seen as a key technology for energy security, offering affordability, reliability and reduced dependence on imported fossil fuels.
The report highlighted strong growth in Asia, with China installing nearly 120GW in 2025 and India adding a record 6.34GW.
Emerging markets including Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Türkiye are also scaling up installations, reflecting wind’s expanding global reach.
“Wind is delivering affordable, reliable power at scale, supporting millions of jobs globally, and strengthening energy security for economies at every stage of development,” said Michael Hannibal, chair of the Global Wind Energy Council.
“The remaining question is not one of technology or finance, but of ambition: whether we are prepared to match what wind can deliver with the political will and public support this moment demands.”
